Why Emmaus

We Are Family

We know your name! We will work with you for your child’s best interest. We care about your temporal well-being and especially about your eternal destiny. While we will do all within our power to serve your family, we are sinners. Ours is not a Christian school because we are perfect, it is a Christian school because we are forgiven. Teachers, parents, and students alike are forgiven because of God’s love for us through the work of Jesus. That forgiveness and love is at the center of all we do at Emmaus.

School Year Theme

A theme is developed each school year to teach important faith lessons to our students. A recent theme was “Living by the Spirit” and was based upon the Fruits of the Spirit as found in the fifth chapter of Galatians. Students received a bracelet when they recite the Fruits of the Spirit, sing a special song and they were engaged in monthly Fruits of the Spirit with their Chapel Families among other activities.

Chapel Families

Our students are grouped together in families across grade levels for weekly chapel services, monthly school year theme activities, and other events. Older students help younger students in participating in worship and lead the other activities and events. This program provides a good example for our younger students and develops leadership skills for our older students.

Safety & Security

We take the safety and security of each and every child very seriously at Emmaus. The State of Indiana requires lock down drills twice a year, we do them each and every month along with other appropriate drills. From video surveillance to strict dismissal procedures, many steps have been taken to keep our students safe and we continue to assess the situation to make them even safer.

Athletics

Students in fourth through eighth grade may participate in inter-scholastic athletics which include girls’ volleyball and cheerleading as well girls’ and boys’ soccer, basketball and track. Week long athletic mini-camps are held for students in kindergarten through fourth grade in late winter and early spring. Early elementary school students may also participate in gymnastics and baton classes.

Extracurricular Activities

Depending upon their age, Emmaus students may participate in Student Council, band, strings, Lego Club, and Lego Robotics. These activities take place during and after school hours and are led by teachers, parents, or other volunteers. Additional activities may be offered as interest and opportunities develop.

Technology

Technology is integrated into our curriculum and instruction across grade levels. Our fifth through eighth graders are equipped with their own iPads that they use to do much of their work. Mac Book and I- Pad carts are available to our other classrooms. New in 2015 are our Media walls which can be found in all classrooms.Media walls replaced our smart boards which we had for over 10 years. The Media Wall allows the classroom to utilize the entire wall as a white board or projector. Our technology plan is in a constant state of review and revision as technology and its educational uses continue to change.

RenWeb

RenWeb is a comprehensive school information system. It is used for an increasing number of functions. Every parent is given a username and password  which can be used to check student assignments and grades. RenWeb also facilitates communication between the members of our school family.

Seclusion & Restraint

Emmaus Lutheran School believes a safe and healthy environment should be provided in which all children can learn, develop, and participate in instructional programs that promote high levels of academic achievement. As an Indiana accredited non-public school, state law requires that our school have a Seclusion and Restrain Plan. The purpose of the plan is to insure that all students and staff are safe in school, and that students who may have behavior crises are free from inappropriate use of seclusion or restraint.
